The North Shore Artists League was founded in January of 2019. Late in the Fall of 2018, Kathy Fox Weinberg, a local artist, was invited to participate in a strategic planning process hosted by the Johnson Heritage Post (JHP) and the Cook County Historical Society by Carrie Johnson, Executive Director. The question before the planning group was to identify critical relationships to the success of JHP. Weinberg identified to the group the need to be in relationship with the many area artists. Out of those planning sessions, she was asked if she would consider putting out a call to artists to assess the interest in an "artists league". The first meeting was convened January 8, 2019 at JHP with 28 artists attending. An unmet need had been identified!
By April of 2019 the League held its first multi-media show with 34 artists participating at the Johnson Heritage Center Post in Grand Marais. The well-received show hosted 75 members from the community for the opening.
The vision for the League is to be 'by artists for artists' - that is to provide a social and collaboration network, to be a source of inspiration, to network artists with communities, to seek opportunities for artist engagement and to enhance the business of art when desired by members. There is a strong commitment to use the extended skill sets of our artists to manage and maintain the organization and functions of the League.
We'd like to hear from you.
