I am a fiber artist with a passion for recreating wilderness and nature scenes using needle felting.

Extended Artist Statement

I am a fiber artist and wilderness enthusiast inspired to capture and represent the beauty of the natural world through needle felting fine layers of natural and synthetic fibers to represent landscapes, skies, scenes, and objects that I hope will elicit warm memories of special moments and quiet reflection.

Nature produces seemingly endless textures and variations in color and fibers, being abundant in nature and a relatable element to everyday life, are an excellent medium to portray these variations. I strive for realism when representing a subject and seek to utilize different types of fiber and needle styles and employ the finest layers of varied colors as possible. Through this style, I hope to cause viewers to take a second glance and pause for a moment to appreciate the detail and colorwork that can be achieved through fiber.

I draw much of my inspiration of the natural world from the Gunflint Trail in Northeastern Minnesota, which is surrounded by the Superior National Forest and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). The area offers visitors the chance to draw closer to nature and disconnect from the rush of modern life and my art seeks to instill a similar sense of calm, slowing, and reflective nostalgia.

I’ve been creating with fiber since early childhood including knitting, rug-hooking, cross stitching and needlepoint embroidery, with increasing rigor as an adult in wet felting, needle felting, hand spinning and hand carding color blends.
