Short Artist Statement

My love of nature and the Northshore is evident in my artwork; color, texture and whimsy I incorporate into my trees, landscapes and florals and are created from the heart.

Extended Artist Statement

Sue Rauschenfels grew up in a small town in northern MN with her 6 sisters in the 1960’s where she spent a lot of time outdoors exploring. She developed her love of nature while enjoying quiet time outside for thinking and for recharging.

Sue began painting fulltime in 2009 after retiring from the University of Minnesota Duluth and resides part-time in MN and AZ. She has taken art classes and workshops locally, nationally, and internationally and is grateful to study and to connect with several diverse art groups for support, inspiration and mentorship.

Sue’s love of nature, color, people and whimsy are often captured in her work. She enjoys telling a story in her artwork which is often as she sees things or dreams of how things should be rather than the realistic narrative. Sue is currently exploring abstract and contemporary art using mixed media- oil and cold wax, acrylic, watercolor and mark-making tools. She continues to enjoy the challenge and excitement of learning and exploring in order to stretch and express her art voice.

Sue’s work is represented in a number of art galleries and has participated in juried art exhibits locally and nationally. She has taught classes using her motto “create what you love without fear.”
