Dietrich’s paintings arise from the physical rhythm of making—gesture, weight, and breath meeting canvas. Her work carries the marks of effort and time, reflecting her belief that painting is a conversation between body, land, and the living world.

Extended Artist Statement

Jen Dietrich lives and works in Two Harbors, MN. Her paintings are rooted in the physical act of making—gesture, rhythm, and the muscle memory of a lifetime spent looking closely. A Minnesota-based artist and longtime painter, she approaches the canvas as a field of movement, where brush and body meet the vastness of land and animal. Horses appear often, not as subjects to be contained but as living extensions of energy—weight and motion rendered in pigment. Likewise, her landscapes are less depictions than encounters, evoking the pulse of open spaces, the tension of wind, and the hush of dusk settling over pasture.

For Dietrich, painting is both labor and meditation. The surface holds traces of effort and surrender, revealing her belief that art is not separate from the physical world but shaped by it—by seasons, terrain, and the body that works within them. Each piece carries the residue of process, the layered evidence of touch, and the quiet persistence of a painter in dialogue with place.
