Winter on Lake Superior has a beauty appreciated by locals fortunate to be her daily presence and by "The Bold" who seek a Superior experience. In January, after several days of sub-zero temperatures, we had an unuaual day of sun and big wqves, the kind of waves that splash over the rocks, hour after hour, until a cloak of ice drapes everything. As I painted this memory of sun on ice, the painting reminded me of the ancient rocks of the shore and the elusive agates souught on the beaches. Superior Agate is a metaphor of the valuable gems of life. Elusive, often ugly rocks not recognized as something to be treasured once polished. Like agates, we must hone our senses to seek the beauty that only nurture and polish may reveal. Ships free.
