Beyond the Veil ‒ original wool needle felting by Kris Kieper, framed 13x13"

This needle-felting artwork is presented in a 13x13-inch floating frame. It features numerous finely blended layers in varying shades of blue, pink, purple, orange, and white, depicting the sky, clouds, and a sun pillar. The inspiration for this piece comes from a photograph taken four minutes after sunset on March 10, 2020, in the Superior National Forest near the end of the Gunflint Trail. Notably, this was the night before the World Health Organization declared the global COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. Perhaps this sun pillar was an omen of what was about to unfold. All I know is that I felt a profound sense of peace while gazing at the beauty of the sky that evening. Sun pillars appear as shafts of light extending vertically above the horizon, most commonly at sunrise or sunset. They form when the sun is low on or below the horizon, with its rays reflecting off falling ice crystals associated with thin, high-level clouds, such as cirrus clouds. Many finely blended layers of varying shades of blue, pink, purple, orange, and white were used to create the sky, clouds, and sun pillar. The backside of the piece offers an interesting view of the colored fibers as they were pushed through the backing. Leaving the back of the piece exposed allows the wool fibers to breathe and minimizes moisture buildup. Wire hanging hardware is attached.
